Summer is Coming! Summer is coming!
I was thinking the other day how much I adore the SPRING time. Everything waking up. Shoots of life popping out of the ground everywhere and the greening and unfolding of life. I even love the mud! It’s all alive. It makes my heart sing.
The summer however is where all my best memories as a kid are. I remember waking up at the lake we’d moved to once school was out for the summer. I’d first awake to only the sounds of birds singing and the big tree branch outside my window that indicated where I was. I would say to myself “Freedom! I don’t have to go bak to school for months!!” I had my cousins and a few lake friends close by so boredom was not possible. We were wandering all through the woods making discoveries like feathers, large animal bones that I later realized were cow bones. We took those bones and created the “Bam Bam Club”
We built tree forts, slept on the ground and made things from a dump close by . We felt SO LUCKY to discover old BBQ grill wheels that we could turn into a go cart! Our construction fasteners were nails that we hammered and bent over to secure whatever. Drills and screws were still a foreign concept at that point. Our old TV didn’t get very good reception so we didn’t spend much time in front of it.
When we weren’t in the woods we were on the lake. We’d get water logged from water games we made up lie painting rocks with old house paint and then dive for them. We discovered clay along the shore line and made ashtrays for our parents (before we knew about the health risks of cigarettes) and let them dry in the sun. We had no clue about kilns and house paint was suitable for decoration. Freedom! Enjoy your summer and have some FUN! All the Best,
Colleen
